Off on my mini break.....

Not at all craft related but I am so excited. Feel like I am going on a full on holiday and I'm only actually going away for 2 nights! But then it is a bank holiday so it makes it an even longer weekend. A blissful 5 days off work ;0)
I'm off on my birthday pressie trip to see the Black Eyed Peas (Sam got the tickets for me in January so I've been waiting AGES) at the O2 and then Wicked on Friday. When I lived in London and New York you couldnt keep me away from the theatre but i havent seen anything since my summer trip last year with Francesca to see Priscilla Queen of the Desert. Roll on tomorrow....
In news related more to paper crafting... I have been thinking of starting up a Stampin' Up! card class once a month at my house in Newport. Was wondering if there would be any interest in this? And when would suit people best? It would be £8 a session which would include refreshments & all materials to make 3 cards and a box (£5 if you bring a friend). I was thinking either a Wednesday evening 7-9.30pm or a Saturday afternoon 1-4pm? Email me (poulton_sarah@yahoo.co.uk) or post a comment if you'd be interested in coming along.

Right, back at the weekend. Hoping to offer some blog candy next week. *fingers crossed*

Wight Craft Circle- Scrap With Us Challenge #14

This weeks challenge had the title 'Stay On The Straight & Narrow' (While Using Ribbon). Now.... I encountered a few problems with this challenge- 1) a lack of photographic inspiration (my pile of prints to work from is getting ever smaller!) 2) a shortage of 'stash' 3) general lacking in papercrafting ideas this week.

I cannot say I am overly happy with my layout. But i was pleased to try a couple of new techniques. And i used up some old stash at the same time (the black lace ribbon down the sides of the photo has been around in my craft drawer for AGES and I had the perfect amount to line each side of the pic).

I was deliberately using muted tones for this to match the Brooklyn Bridge scrapbook paper I found on Ebay last week. I enjoyed having a go at making a little journalling envelope on the side. A handy way to fill a vacant space on the LO. Weirdly when I look at this LO I am reminded of the documentary my Mr Sam was watching on the Hope Diamond. Does anyone else get that when they craft? They can associate the item with the music they were listening to or the programme on TV playing in the background?

Picture was taken back in 2006 on a pre-Christmas shopping trip to NY with my Mum ;0) We discovered the newly reopened Top of the Rock (Rockefeller Centre) viewing platform which gives incredible photos of Manhattan with the added bonus that you get pics with the Empire State Building in!

Using: Stampin' Up! Designer Patterned Paper Series (Hostess Level 1), Soft Suede Polka Dotted Ribbon (New in the Colour Renovation Promotion), Tag Punch.

Card for Mum

I treated myself to a couple of new punches while putting in an order the other day for my new product share (above) and decided to make my mum a celebratory card for an important day today.
I've decided to post the card as 1) I loved the bright and bold colours and 2) I learned a very valuable lesson whilst making this- dont glue lovely ribbon with liquid glue!! (as you can see- it shows through to the front). Still, you never learn without making a mistake or two ;0)
I would like to point out that i originally glued the ribbon with sticky tape but then decided to stick the star underneath it afterwards. If I'm honest, it all went a bit pear shaped! *laugh* But the glue mark did fade when dry and Mum loved it all the same ;0)
For this I used: Green Galore and Pink Passion Card Stock on a plain black A5 folded card. I used the Cheers To You stampset accessorised with Dazzling Diamonds Stampin Glitter. The punches I used were my new Scallop Circle and Large Star. The Polka Dotted Ribbon is part of the new colours promotion and is Melon Mambo ;0)
The weird glitter on the star tips is some gorgeous tinsel glitter (not Stampin' Up!) that i saw at a craft fair and then purchased off Ebay (arrived from US yesterday hence I was dying to try it out). I absolutely adore the effect of this fine stranded glitter and it also reminds me of being a teenager as I used to wear glittery nail varnish with the same effect ;0)

WCC Scrap Challenge- Week 13

Here is my LO for week 13's challenge. I found these gorgeous pictures of Tintagel and my friend Hannah's Hen Party a couple of years ago. I loved this week's challenge and using the sketch and photo for inspiration.

I used my new Stampin Up Cottage Wall Papers and the tiny tags stamps and punch for this LO.

New Colours from Stampin Up Card

Here is a 'thank you' card i made last night using my new colour goodies. I took the inspiration for this card from a tutorial I saw on juliesjapes.blogspot.com a few days ago. The coloured papers are from the Cottage Wall Designer Series Paper, the cardstock is A4 black, Old Olive and Rich Razzleberry (with matching InkPad too). The stamp sets are: Vintage Vogue, Flight of the Butterfly & Oval All. I've also used the butterfly and scallop oval punches.
I think I need to invest in a better camera and I should find a better area of the house to take photographs as they all seem to come out so dark!! But here are my best attempts at photographing my creation from last night:

WCC Challenge #12 - Pockets or Envelopes

I had a revelation after completing this LO on Saturday evening. I appear to be completing very similar LOs each week. I seem to have developed a LO formula which I use with varying backgrounds and colour schemes. So my personal challenge for the week is going to be to get hold of some new photos and a few little stash items and have a go at breaking my own pattern of layouts. I am going to have a look through my scrapbooking magazines and books and try some new techniques.

Anyways, that aside, here is my #12 challenge LO. I made myself a little envelope which I used for extra photos and a little bit of text.

I created this using: Sweet Pea Paper Stack, Just Perfect Alphabet & Taken With Teal Cardstock.

WCC Challenge #11- Torn Paper

I started this LO on Saturday at the Wight Craft Circle Monthly Crop. I wasn't really happy with what I'd done until I got home and raided my stash where I found the little green and silver stars. They finished it off nicely. And while this isnt my favourite lay out i've completed I think I picked up on the 'school days' theme quite nicely and I loved using these old pictures of me and old friends from school. I think making my own lined paper was my highlight of the LO (and yes I do realise I could quite easily have actually just used a sheet from a notebook but I only had a blank sheet with me!).

My first Stampin Up workshop

The lovely Paige was my hostess on Friday evening for my very first Stampin Up workshop. I had practiced my demo and 'make and take' over and over so I was very well prepared. I was so pleased with how it all went and it was lovely to share SU with some lovely crafters. Paige had done such a fantastic job with nibbles and drinks that I was happy we managed to get her some lovely hostess goodies as a thank you ;0)

Here are the two projects I demo'd for Paige's workshop:

This mini scrapbook page was a variation on a demo that I saw in Liverpool at the Hobbycrafts show. I made a couple of different versions of it showing how it could easily be adapted into a greetings card with the addition of an extra flower and a greeting stamp. For this project we used: Chocolate Chip Card, Old Olive Card, Pink Passion Card, Taken With Teal Ink, Pink Passion Ink, Earth Elements Stampin Writes, Heart to Heart Punch, Chocolate Chip Grosgrain Ribbon, Scallop Edge Punch, and the My Sweet Pea Stamp Set from the new mini catalogue. While seeking inspiration for my demo project (knowing that i wanted to demo the Sweet Treat Cups) I had a look around at a few of my fellow SU demos websites. I came across a card similar to the above on my lovely upline Michelle's website. I used my own tools and colours to personalise this project and to make a lovely adult style card from the Something Sweet Stamp Set (I have previously posted the many variations of childrens cards I have made with this set).

This card used: Taken With Teal Card, More Mustard Card & Ink, Chocolate Chip Card & Ink, Old Olive Card and Ink, Sweet Pea Designer Paper Stack (Mini Catalogue), Tiny Tags Stamp Set and Punch (Mini Catalogue), Sweet Treat Cup, 1 3/4" Circle Punch, linen thread & paper piercing tool.

Appuldercombe Craft Fair- 2nd May

Here is my craft stall at the weekend. I had a practice on Saturday at Mum's house with how to lay out everything and was really pleased with how it looked. Shame the weather came along and made the event a bit of a washout. The visitor numbers were pretty low as the weather was atrocious. But it was a good learning curve as I have a few bigger events coming up in the summer.
For anyone I met at the Reading Training in March who may recognise their swaps on my SU notice board I hope you dont mind. I'll happily give credit if you get in touch ;0)

Birthday Cards

Here are a selection of the lovely handmade cards my Dad and sister received over the weekend.

This is my card for Dad. I made this using various Stampin Up sets and tools as well as some old cardstock and papers. I cut the windows using the 1 3/4 circle punch and then stamped the fish using the stamp from the Something Sweet stamp set. The weed is stamped using the small flower from the Tiny Tags stampset from the Mini catalogue ;0)

Mum's card that she made for Dad. I loved this owl (and the greeting is familiar from the Happy Moments SAB set).

Mums stunning 3D card for Sophie that she made using acetate to make the card rounded in shape ;0)

Natalie's gorgeous card for Sophie stamped using the All in the Family stampset. I love how each element of the girl is stamped in a different colour using Stampin Writes ;0)

My card for Sophie using an old 'sweetie' themed pad of cardstock and the Something Sweet stampset. I stamped the sweet machine with Versamark and then mounted under the Sweet Treat Cup. I created the pull tag so the sweeties could be got at without ruining the whole card ;0) I filled the treat cup with only Ss, Js and Ps for my sisters initials ;0) Sophie's name was stamped (without the use of my Stamp Ma Jig) using the Just Perfect Alphabet!

Scrap With Us #10 - Favourite Colour

I finally managed to get my photos on here for the WCC scrap challenge #10!! I was originally going to do Lime Green. However, upon finding red polka dotted paper (my absolute favourite!) in Hobbycraft that was perfect for these photos I couldnt resist changing to this instead :0) Its got all my favourite things.... my lovely friend Natalie, red polka dots and lots and lots of glitter ;0)
Considering this is only the 2nd proper layout I have done I am really pleased with it. Now when I go to craft shops I find myself looking with a scrapbookers eye for items to add to my stash or that would brighten up a LO. For this i finally used my black and red glittered flock powders that I have had for ages but never been able to find a use for. Onwards to challenge #11 ;0)
